But for those of you who fought in the Battle of Fallujah, that holiday season was anything but traditional. It was a chaotic, hellish time in one of the fiercest urban battles of the Iraq War. The city was a labyrinth of danger, where every corner held the possibility of ambush, and every building became a fortress that had to be cleared.

Thanksgiving 2004 came and went in the midst of chaos. While others sat down to turkey and football, you were locked in brutal combat, sharing not a feast but the grit and grime of war. As Christmas approached, many you hoped the operation would wind down, and thankfully, for some, it did. But for many warriors, the holiday was spent in that urban hellscape, surrounded not by twinkling lights and carols, but by the echoes of fallen brothers and the ever-present weight of survival.
