There is perhaps no one more memorable from WWII than the fiery, foul-mouthed, hard-nosed general, George Patton. Beloved by his men, feared by his enemies, and unpredictable to his peers and politicians, Patton achieved more on the battlefield than any other general during WWII. His lightning armor strikes later became standard U.S. Army armor doctrine. Known for his brilliance on the battlefield, Patton often had to make decisions based on limited information and time. But he knew to avoid “paralysis by analysis,” make a decision, and execute it the best he could. Otherwise, the enemy might maneuver faster and beat him.

His enemies feared his ingenuity and rapid advances, and the politicians feared his mouth. Known for his bravery, bravado, and adoration of his troops, his foul mouth caused other generals like Bradley to distance themselves from him. Politicians saw his power with the troops and the imagination of the American public as dangerous and did their best to relieve him of command.
