FAMILY ABOVE ALL!

And we don't just mean your spouse, children, parents, and siblings. Family isn't about the people you were born to. Family is the group of people you choose, and we often have many families. You, of course, have your blood family, but that doesn't always mean they act like family. They may simply be relatives, biological and cultural links to other people.

A true family looks after one another. They care about each other. They fight. They negotiate. They figure things out between them. They love each other even in hard times. Family sticks together when times are tough and lives the high life when it's good. Anyone who has ever served in the military, played on a sports team, or been a part of something greater than themselves will tell you that family is everything.

Your employer may try to convince you of this, too. But when the economy takes a downturn and times get tough, does your true family sack you and leave you penniless to save themselves?

Think about who and why you call someone "family," but most of all, celebrate that you have people in your life that matter more than yourself. Because when we all turn to dust, it's those people we leave behind that keep our memory alive so that we can live forever!
