The United States Coast Guard is perhaps one of our most under-appreciated services. But here at DIA, we KNOW how difficult their jobs are and how often they get to be real heroes as they patrol our coastal waters. The Coast Guard is responsible for safeguarding our Nation's coastline and maritime interests.

Their duties include:

• Enforcing maritime law
• Conducting search and rescue operations
• Maintaining aids to navigation, and
• Protecting marine resources

The Coast Guard is often the first responder to maritime emergencies and is regularly called upon to assist federal, state, and local agencies.

The Coast Guard is also responsible for ensuring the safety of commercial vessels, their crews, and recreational boaters. The Coast Guard is a 24/7 operation, and their work is often dangerous and demanding.

But every day Coasties put their lives on the line to keep us safe.
